As to the topic at hand, posting a reply to an older thread is acceptable but finding 5 similar threads and posting to them as well even if just to link to the main thread is not as it adds nothing to the discussion and just clutters up the Recent Posts list.
Users couldn't subscribe back then, so no one will get an email notice about it. As for my commenting with a link to the most recent one , Ive seen countless comments posting links to other threads.
And none of them added anything to the discussion if we are going by your definition of "adding relevant info". Might I suggest a way for people to silently notify only the people in the post about the comment instead of it being set as a recent post? But lets be real for a second. I think you are a nice guy and I love this forum and portable apps. And I just spent an entire day researching and updating all these tutorials for multiple web plugins that everyone uses on a daily basis.
